18.3m wooden sailboat -- "Xinlan" was built by Lianjiang century-old Shipbuilding Factory -- Taiyuan Shipbuilding Industry of Fujian Province in early October 2020. It was carefully built by local excellent old craftsmen of traditional shipbuilding in Lianjiang using the ancient method. The sailing trial was completed in February 2021, which marked the complete success of the construction of the ship and the accumulation and inheritance of traditional shipbuilding skills of the century-old factory. A sign of the region's historic shipbuilding excellence.
The restoration and construction of this ship is the main project of the 2020 construction plan of Fujian Shipping Administration and Transportation Vocational College, which is a high-level vocational college with Chinese characteristics. It aims to inherit the traditional shipbuilding (Fu Boat) skills and culture in Fujian (mainly in Fuzhou). The ship design work is completed by the faculty and students of ship engineering of the college. The design drawings and data have been examined and approved by Fujian Provincial Bureau of Shipping Inspection. It is one of the few traditional wooden sailboats built by formal approval procedures in Fujian in the past 20 years. This ship is based on the "Fujian Province excellent Survey of wooden sailboat" included in the two Fuzhou area excellent coastal wooden sailboat type - Danyang boat and (Zhoumiao) (Zhoulan) boat as the design basis for the boat type, the boat type originated from Fuzhou area in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, and referring to the characteristics of Fuzhou area classic fishing boat type - Dawei boat, the continuation of the above three types of boat stability is good, The advantages of large sail area, flexible maneuvering, good upwind sailing performance and the unique artistic characteristics of Fuzhou ship. One of the reference prototype ships of this ship, "Free China" (Danyang type wooden sailboat built in Fuzhou in 1939, which lasted 114 days to cross the Pacific Ocean and arrived in San Francisco in 1955, thus witnessing the excellent sailing performance of Fuzhou wooden sailboat).
The construction task of this ship was undertaken by the non-genetic inheritor of the watertight bulkhead technology. Teachers and students participated in the whole process and recorded the detailed process. Later, they jointly compiled the teaching materials of Fu Ship construction technology and issued them for teaching purposes. At the same time, in the construction process, the process of new construction of ancient ships is promoted, combined with modern accurate modeling and lofting, the traditional process is improved, and the sample and standardization of the whole ship's structural parts are realized, thus greatly reducing the labor intensity and the working hours.
This ship will be the first traditional wooden sailing ship in Fujian Province that has been inspected and certified by the provincial Bureau of Shipping Inspection. After the completion of construction, the boat will be used as a teaching and practice boat for students majoring in navigation, as well as a visiting boat for the research activities of the Fu Boat Craft culture, sailing in the Minjiang River basin and participating in traditional cultural activities, which has a high cultural value. The building story of this ship was reported by CCTV "Blue Ocean China-Fuzhou", which has a profound influence on the promotion of traditional shipbuilding skills in Fuzhou.
